In the heart of Switzerland, in Stalden, above Lake Sarnen, with a view of the Bernese Alps, more than 50 woolylamas graze.
Llamas belong to the New World camelid family, originally native to the high altitudes of the South American Andes. They are very undemanding animals that don't need to be brushed every day, although of course they would enjoy it. Their gentle and docile character makes them harmless and safe when dealing with children.
Since llamas have an average life expectancy of more than 20 years and they are animals with which one develops a relationship very quickly, it is worth paying attention to a good character.

For us, llamas are not only a hiking companion, hobby and leisure animal, but also a sensible alternative for landscape maintenance in our mountain area. The llama bite works like a cutter. It doesn't pluck the grass, it mows it. With their soft, callused soles, they do not damage the turf and hardly cause any damage when stepped on. They are therefore ideally suited to grazing and caring for our steep slopes. Llamas are soil-friendly, disease-resistant roughage eaters.

Since it is a pleasant, calm animal that approaches people curiously and uninhibitedly, we also use our llamas in social care and animal-assisted work.  It looks proud and graceful at the same time, radiates good nature and serenity. Dealing with and working with our llamas is a lot of fun for the whole family.

What..... llamas spit?
Yes, but spitting is an expression of hierarchy within the herd. It is extremely rare for llamas to spit at people. They only do this when they feel threatened, provoked, or irritated by them.
